Discord’s servers are a great place to chat with your friends, but sometimes things might become a little too quiet. To address this, and to add some more entertainment options, bots were introduced to Discord allowing users to play music through them.
However, if you can’t get a bot to work, or you simply want another way to play audio on Discord, read this guide.

Adjusting Windows Audio Settings
Before you can start blasting music through your mic on Discord, you need to edit a few settings on Windows.
- Right-click the speakers icon on the Windows taskbar, select Open Sound settings, then open Sound Control Panel in the top right of the window. Alternatively, you can just type “Sound Control Panel” in the Windows search.
- Open the Recording tab.
- Scroll down until you see Stereo Mix and make sure it’s enabled.
- Click Set Default and close the control panel.
Once you have adjusted the audio settings, you can return to Discord, join a voice channel and start playing music.
Everyone should be able to listen to the music emanating from your microphone.
If it’s not operational yet, visit Discord’s User Settings and then click on Voice & Video. In the input dropdown menu, choose Stereo Mix, then go back and attempt once more.
That’s everything there is to it!
Now you can enjoy some of your preferred songs with your friends and teammates on Discord!
